Abstract
A young female gymnast incurred an injury to the small intestine while she practised a common manoeuvre on the uneven parallel bars. The mechanism of this nonpenetrating injury may involve direct compression of the proximinal jejunum against the anterior lordosis of the lumbosacral spine or such an injury may be caused by a tearing force applied to the proximal jejunum, which is relatively fixed at the ligament of Treitz. This injury is difficult to manage if early abdominal signs are lacking and if diagnosis is delayed. Verf.-Referat
