Abstract

Concern about the transmission of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) has become paramount in all medical professions. The first case of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), the disease caused by the transmission of HIV, was diagnosed in 1981. Now it is reported that approximately 1 to 1.5 million Americans are infected with HIV. Athletic trainers need to be aware of the recommendations for the prevention of the transmission of HIV. Universities with student athletic trainers need to establish written guidelines to ensure that AIDS information is disseminated to all such student athletic trainers. Verf.-Referat
