Abstract

Fifty-eight professional and amateur boxers have been evaluated by various modern diagnostic modalities, including computed tomography, electroencephalography, neurologic examinations, and neuropsychologic testing. Definite structural abnormalities of the brain and abnormal neuropsychologic test result were demonstrated. The established medical injuries due to boxing and the lack of any sustained and subsequent efforts on the part of organized boxing lead to the conclusion that boxing is not a sport and that it is appropriate to consider banning it.
