Abstract

During the last few decades, children have become increasingly involved in both organized and unsupervised sporting activities. As a result of increasing participation and competitiveness in the pediatric and adolescent age group, the number of children presenting with injuries is high, and at times alarming. Despite the differences in skeletal anatomy and physiology of the pediatric athlete that predispose to growth plate, apophyseal, and greenstick-type fracture, soft-tissue injuries continue to predominate among acute injuries in athletes between the ages of 10 and 18. These injuries include contusions, sprains, and strains. Verf.-Referat
