Abstract

The data of 54 athletes are discussed who were sent to hospital because of hypertonia, completed by the case of an athlete whose hypertonia was discovered by sports-medical examination. In further 11 cases hypertonia could not be diagnosed. The extended examination program of 54 hypertonic athletes (47 males - mean age 22.6 +/- 7.0 years, 7 females - mean age 23.1 +/- 10.0 years, mean blood pressure 160 +/- 3.7/93.3 +/- 3.7 Hgmm) can prove renovascular hypertonia only in one case. In spite of the costs and the relatively low occurence of secundary hypertonia the carrying out of the extended examination is recommended for athletes because of their juvenile age and existential possibilities. In the cases of border-line and light hypertonia mainly in dynamic sports the competitive sports participation can be allowed with more frequent sports-medical control examination. As for the treatment forms, the modified gradual therapy is recommended for the stabilization of blood pressure at 140/90 Hgmm or below. The decisive point of view in the selection of drug treatment is the decrease of blood pressure both in rest and during physical exertion with the simultaneous upholding of the performance. The importance of the individual judgement and the continuous sports-medical control examination is emphasized. Verf.-Referat
