Abstract

This study explores the relation between intrapsychic and interpersonal processes and sport performance in volleyball. Questionnaires for the evaluation of personality characeristics and player-team relations were administered to all teams of the A2 men volleyball national championship. The teams were divided into three groups (high, middle, low) according with their standing at the end of the season. It had been hypothesized that the high standing teams in comparison with middle and low standing ones would be composed by athletes showing a high degree of self and reciprocal acceptance and attention. The analysis of variance showed significant differences among the three groups. Athletes in high standing teams perceive themselves more attentive and planful and less inimical, less self-hurting, less self-neglecting and less isolated. The same group showed interpersonal behaviors oriented primarily towards reciprocal attention and acceptance. Verf.-Referat
