Abstract

Two hundred and ninety two student nurses, at the University of Ottawa, completed the THURSTONE-RICHARDSON attitude questionnaire and 78 student nurses voluntarily took the Canadian Home Fitness Test. Scores from both instruments were correlated using a SPEARMAN rank order correlation. The Chi-square test of independence tested the degree of relationship between verbal expression and participation. Results from the SPEARMAN correlation showed very little relationship between attitudes measured by the THURSTONE-RICHARDSON questionnaire and actual participation measured by the Canadian Home Test. The work of AZJEN and FISHBEIN is discussed with reference to the inconsistency of behaviour discovered. Verf.-Referat
