Abstract

Sixteen female bodybuilders and sixteen non-weight trained female athletes were examined to determine their physiological profiles. The evaluation involved the determination of body composition, physical size and structure from skinfolds and circumference measurements, bone diameters and limb volumes, and isotonic strength, maximal oxygen uptake and resting blood pressure measures. In comparison to non-weight trained female athletes, the bodybuilders were found to have significantly lower body fat levels (26.5 and 18.4 respectively). Bodybuilders expressed significantly greater strength scores in all isotonic measures. The non-weight trained athletes had larger limb volumes, and their fat-free mass was slightly higher (46.4kg) than the bodybuilders (44.8kg). There was no significant difference in maximal oxygen uptake between the two groups. Verf.-Referat
