Abstract

The paper gives the advantages and disadvantages of Newton approach to the description of human motion tasks. A new method of analysis of human motion tasks, such as run and walk, has been proposed. This method employs phase diagrams, that is diagrams showing the relationship between q and q, where q is a coordinate or a physical quantitiy. All phase diagrams useful in the description of the human motion tasks were analysed. Phase diagrams were found to be useful in creating non-mechanical models of chosen joints performing periodical tasks. Phase diagrams of periodical and non-periodical tasks allows for indirect estimation of values of forces, torques and angular momentum of an object without the necessity of constructing and solving equations of motion. Although phase diagrams considerably simplify the analysis of human motion tasks, there exists an urgent need of further investigation of their usefulness in clinical conditions, in planning sports training and in constructing prostheses of limbs.
