Abstract
The subjects of this study were five female and five male rowers training on a rowing pool. The energy cost of an exercise was determined on the basis of oxygen uptake, CO2 production, and pulmonary minute ventilation. Mechanical work performed during rowing was determined using Pool Rowing Tester. Mechanical efficiency of rowing exercises was calculated on the basis of their energy cost (Lo - J/min) and effective work (Lm - J/min). Mechanical efficiency coefficient for continuous run is equal 0.2, and for technical exercises 0.18. Determination of mechanical efficiency coefficient and mechanical work performed for typical exercises on a rowing pool enables estimation of put-in work (Lo). Workload intensity index for each training unit was studied by comparison of work performed with maximal work determined during preliminary efficiency test. Verf.-Referat
