Abstract
Natural, periodic movements of human forearm in the horizontal plane were recorded, and subsequently compared with results of the simulations consistent with two optimization criteria: minimization of the integral of the square of the elbow joint torque, and minimization of the integral of the square of the forces generated by flexors and extensors of the elbow joint. To generate the optimal time histories of the joint angle, methods of the calculus of variations were employed. The results suggest that it is rather the square of the muscular force than the square of the articular torque that man is trying to minimize while performing this simple motor task. Verf.-Referat
