Abstract
The use of acetazolamide for the prophylaxis of acute mountain sickness is well established. Recent data suggest additional beneficial effects such as reducing muscle loss and assisting exercise performance at altitude. The brain and other organs also function better at altitude on acetazolamide. Since there is a trend towards lightweight, rapid ascent expeditions to the Himalayas, the use of acetazolamide by these climbers is advantageous. Verf.-Referat
