Abstract

Four cricket skills tests, for batting, bowling, fielding and combined ability, are described. This study evaluated the validity, objectivity and reliability of these tests. Content and concurrent validity were confirmed by moderate to high correlation coefficients between these test scores and the subjective evaluations of qualified coaches on young cricketers (n=155). When experienced and inexperienced testers administered these tests to a group of players (n=44), there were no differences (p<0.05) between the scores, attesting to the objectivity of these tests. Reliability was assessed by five repeated administrations of the test to twenty-three players. Test scores improved from test 1 to test 2, but remained unchanged from test 2 to test 5 indicating that with an initial period of practice, to enable learning to occur, these tests provide a reliable method of assessing cricket skills. In general, the results indicate that these tests are valid objective and reliable tests of cricket playing ability. Verf.-Referat
