Abstract
The incidence of injuries in top sportsmen and sportswomen is probably higher than is now generally assumed on the basis of data. Prevalent injuries or defects as a result of sports are discussed in this article. Therefore it is important that a consistent measure and registration system is developed in the Netherlands. It is desirable, if not necessary, to submit all top class sportsmen and sportswomen to a specific medical examination, in relation to the choice of top class sport, which is repeated every year. After the termination of a top-class sports career, good medical, psychological and social coaching is highly desirable. Verf.-Referat
