Abstract
Evaluation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis of a 30-year-old amenorrheic long-distance runner suggests abnormal secretion of luteinising hormone releasing hormone (LHRH) consistent with hypothalamic anovulatory syndrome. Pharmacological intervention by pulsatile administration of synthetic LHRH normalised menstrual cyclicity and the associated subfertility while the subject maintained a significant training mileage.
