Abstract

The experiments were performed on Wistar rats. They were allowed to train in running or swimming during 11 weeks. The elevated cytochrome a-a3 content and four variants of alterations in the adrenals were established: 1) a pronounced adrenal hypertrophy due to the enlargement of the fascicular-reticular zones and medulla together with a pronounced increase in the cytochrome a-a3 content without any pronounced changes in the adrenal corticosterone content (characteristic of adaptation to prolonged continuous exercise), 2) a slight adrenal hypertrophy accompanied by an increased corticosterone level of the adrenals (characteristic of adaptation to interval training with anaerobic exercises of submaximal intensity), 3) a slight adrenal hyperthrophy accompanied by a decrease in the adrenal corticosterone content (characteristic of adaptation to sprint exercises of maximal intensity). Adaptation to swimming exercises of moderate intensity was accompanied by a pronounced adrenal hypertrophy without significant alterations in the adrenal cortisterone content. The blood corticosterone level decreased due to training except in the group, adapted to interval training, in which an elevated corticosterone content was found also in the adrenals. Verf.-Referat
