Abstract

Dynamics of changes in maximal anaerobic power in girls and boys aged 7-19 years is discussed, based on the results of investigations carried out on 965 subjects (457 boys and 508 girls) of Cracow schools who performed a modified Georgescu test. Total and relative values of maximal anaerobic power (MAP and MAP/kg), duration of the flight and take-off phases in jumps applied in the Georgescu tests were analyzed. The boys demonstrated a regular increase of total MAP throughout the period studied, while the pronounced increasing trend in girls was observed only up to the age of 14 years. In boys, relative values of maximal anaerobic power reached the level of 22-24 W/kg during the pre-pubescence period, approx. 26 W/kg at the age of 13-17 years, and the highest values, 28 W/kg, were observed in the oldest age groups. The girls demonstrated a decreasing trend in MAP/kg; the highest mean values were observed during pre-adolescence period, to reach 21 W/kg at the end of the developmental period. At the age of up to 12 years the level of all the parameters studied did not differentiate the two genders, while at a later stage of the developmental period the dimorphic differences were gradually increased.
