Abstract des Autors
The number of circulating leukocytes and their morphology, the immunological phenotype of peripheral leukocytes by the receptors for the monoclonal antibodies OKT3, OKT4 and OKT5 that recognise total, helper and suppressor Ts respectively and the surface immunoglobulins on the B-lymphocytes were assessed in 8 athletes before and immediately after 30 minutes of continuous free-style wrestling. The response to phytohemoagglutinin (PHA) and the cell content of adenosine-deaminase (ADA) purinonucleoside phosphorylase (PNP) in the non-fractioned lymphocytes and Ts were also studied. The results show that intensive physical activity is followed by pronounced leukocytosis with lymphocytosis that appears to affect all lymphocyte populations. In contrast the response to PHA appears to be reduced after exercise in all cases suggesting a temporary immunological deficit. An increase in intralymphocytic ADA also occurs suggesting major modifications in intra-cellular metabolism.
