Abstract
Non-invasive extrapolation carbon dioxide method of cardiac output and stroke volume measurement has been commonly used in studies on physical effort. In order to evaluate the method precision, ten young subjects were studied in whom five determinations of PVC02 were made with three different workloads of 100 W, 150 W, and individual maximum level. The results were treated with statistical analysis, using Bertlett test of multi-variance homogeneity. The test has shown that the extrapolation method according to Defares is characterized by high errors resulting mainly from low-precision determination of PVC02. The highest errors occur during maximal exercise, therefore the method is not recommended for submaximal exercise, and should be absolutely abandoned in maximal exercise. Verf.-Referat
