Abstract
Skeletal muscle blood flow, as determined by the availability of oxygen and substrate and the washout of metabolites, has a decisive influence on muscle performance. For this reason, the cardiovascular adaptations to physical training have received increasing attention in the study of sports physiology. There are a number of reviews on this subject, but they deal in general with adaptive changes of heart structure and functions with training.
