Abstract

Recent research data have shown that agility in kayakers and wrestlers undergoes changes during various periods of training. The purpose of this study is to elucidate variation of agility at different stages of sports instruction and periods of training, and to find out whether the agility indices differentiate the competitors, according to their weight categories. Ninety one competitors were studied. Three agility tests were applied: maximum turn in jump, zig-zag run, so-called envelope, and run with turnover. The studies resulted in the following conclusions: 1. Agility indices are higher in juniors than in younger juniors; results in agility show deterioration in wrestlers during the preparatory period, as opposed to the coordination index which shows improvement at that periods; 3. The competitors who attain the highest indices are regarded by their coaches as technically versatile. 4. The lowest level of agility is observed in heavier weight categories. However, it should not be assumed that agility level is determined only by the competitors body weight, since in some tests the competitors of heavier weight categories attained better results than the wrestlers of lighter weight categories. Our data have shown that very little is known on variation of agility during sports training. Verf.-Referat
