Abstract
Effective treatment of a dislocated shoulder begins with accurate and complete diagnosis. Initial treatment includes application of ice and the use of a sling. There are several methods to reduce a dislocated shoulder. The author uses the Stimson method of reduction, in which the dislocated shoulder extends over the edge of the table and the hand hangs free above the floor with a weight attached to it for gentle reduction. Repeated closed manipulations should be done only by an orthopedic surgeon after obtaining adequate x-rays and administering anesthesia. After the dislocation is reduced, the shoulder should be immobilized in adduction and internal rotation. Verf.-Referat
