Abstract des Autors

Football officials as well as players get injured during games, but studies on this topic are scarce. The authors surveyed 81 high school football officials by means of a questionnaire to find out the type, location, and mechanism of their injuries as well as the amount of time they lost because of injury. Forty-three injuries were reported; 67.4 were to the lower extremity. The most common cause of injury was collision with a player. Almost half the injuries (48.8) occurred during the third quarter of the game. The overall injury rate, though not alarming, indicates that officiating is somewhat hazardous. Verf.-Referat
