Abstract des Autors

The authors reviewed four years of sports injuries at Queens College of the City University of New York, a nonscholarship commuter school. They found that 1,170 athletes sustained 464 injuries, for an overall injury rate of 40. The injury rates for men and women were not significantly different. Track and baseball had the highest injury rates for men; gymnastics and track had the highest rates for women. The six most commonly injured sites (knee, ankle, calf, quadriceps, back, and shoulder) were the same for both sexes. The authors concluded that this study more accurately reflects the injury potential for recreational athletes than for athletes at schools with major sports programs, where financial aid depends on athletic performance.
