Abstract

15 soccer players of a first class team were tested and submitted to tests before (august) and during the championship (october). The changes of the maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max), maximal anaerobic power and simultaneously, the time course of the cardiac rate during the relief phase, the maximal pulse, the maximal cardiac output and several haematochemical parameters were assayed. The VO2max values found in the pre-season training period were 54.54 +/- 2.2 ml/kg/min. During the championship the means of the same values were 56.0 +/- 1.4 ml/kg/min, these latter, considered in linear function of the age of the athletes, showed values from 52 +/- 0.7 ml/kg/min in 20-25 years old subjects to 60 +/- 1.7 ml/kg/min in 25-30 years old. The maximal anaerobic power was not significantly modified when the muscular work (normal training) was prolonged from a 60 minute to a 120 minute period. On the contrary, the restoration time of the heart rate results significantly shorter during the championship when compared to that found in the pre-season training period. The maximal pulse and the maximal cardiac output, calculated with an indirect method and analyzed by age groups during the championship demonstrated the expected increase in relation to the intensity of the submaximal work.
