Abstract

The peak of ski lesions occurs in infantile and juvenile ages with a clear-cut spike at about the 13th year of life. The rate of lesions in the first two decades in relationship with the global number of ski accidents is constantly increasing, and in this age group also severe and multiple lesions appear in increasing number. The direct trauma appears more frequently above all in the form of the deceleration trauma as a result of the rebound at high speed, whereas the indirect trauma in the form of the typical mechanism of torsion in the torsion fall shows a tendency to decrease, after the development of effective safety foot-bindings. On the basis of a few cases, the attention is drawn on some topics of particular importance in the treatment of lesions of the developing skeleton. Certainly, here the following saying applies: to be conservative as possible, to perform surgery when necessary. An accurate follow-up care should be applied, however, to subject possible late damages to an optimal therapy as early as possible. Verf.-Referat
