Abstract
Marked widening and adjacent osteoporosis of the proximal humeral epiphysis in the throwing arm of an adolescent baseball pitcher was first reported by Dotter in 1953. Dotter attributed these changes to a fracture of the epiphysis and first used the term Little Leaguers shoulder to describe the syndrome. In 1966, Adams reported five additional cases of marked widening of the proximal humeral epiphysis in the throwing arm of adolescent pitchers and felt that this represented a traction type of osteochondrosis. One other similar case has been found in the literature. In this paper, we report an additional case of marked changes of the proximal humeral epiphysis in an adolescent baseball pitcher. This paper will review the literature and discuss the management and prognosis for this type of problem. Verf.-Referat
