Abstract des Autors
Figure skating today is more of an art than a science. Limited research indicates that figure skaters are shorter, lighter, and leaner than sedentary people of the same age. Cardiovascular fitness, leg strength and power, and dynamic balance are well developed, whereas upper body strength, static flexibility, and static balance measurements indicate approximately average development. Physical stress during free skating has been approximated at 75 to 80 of the skaters maximal aerobic power. The types of training required to produce a good figure skating performance are left to the coaches judgment, and those decisions are often made with minimal scientific evidence. Verf.-Referat
