Abstract
Five riders were subjected to experimental tests to determine the true physi- cal commitment involved in horse-riding, each rider being of a different technical and athletic level to ensure a full spread of results. The pattern of the parameters examined and heart rate determined telemetrically before, during, and after a competition, together with the blood lactic acid level during the recovery period, showed that riding represents a real work load, and that this is relatively more marked if the rider is not sufficiently trained specifically and organically.
