Abstract
Three hundred Kaltenbach step test involving athletes aged 20- 49 yr were examined. The ease with which this test can be carried out correctly, its freedomfrom noteworthy arrhythmic complications, the high heart rates reached in untrained subjects, and its brief duration render it advisable for the mass screening of asymptomatic subjects wishing to take up a sport.
