Abstract des Autors

The author studied deaths related to sports and recreation in Alberta, Canada. Of the 70 deaths in 1977, 37 were caused by drowning and occurred in such activities as boating, swimming, hunting, and fishing. The use of alcohol in excess, the absence of life jackets, and participation by nonswimmers were dominant factors. Proper safety precautions would have prevented most of thesedeaths. Verf.-Referat
