Abstract des Autors

Facial injuries were the most frequent injury (22.6) in a study of one seasonof play by a Massachusetts junior hockey team. Injuries to the forearm and elbow (13 ) and to the hip (7.2 ) appeared to be caused by a design flaw in elbow pads and hockey pants rather than by the severity of body or stick contact. Since most facial injuries are prevented by the use of a face guard, we question amateur hockey rules that excuse players from wearing face guards if the game is played before a paid gate.
