Abstract

The influence of type and duration of exercise tests on the assessment of maximal power and performance at the anaerobic threshold was tested in 12 untrained males. In bicycle tests, maximal oxygen uptake was 8 lower than intreadmill tests. Heart rate and performance at the anaerobic threshold expressed in percent of the maximal power was lower in bicycle work. Increasing the duration of each stage from 3 to 5.5 min led to a decrease of maximal power by 9 and of the work load at the anaerobic threshold by 4 to 6. For performance diagnostics in sports medicine, a 3-min interval at each level can be recommended for the assessment of maximal power and the anaerobicthreshold. The treadmill slope should be 2 to 5. The adequate heart rate forrecreational running can be calculated by the formula 200 minus age in untrained young and middle-aged persons. Verf.-Referat
