Abstract
The compensatory hypertrophy of plantaris and soleus muscles has been induced in male and female rats by complete removal of gastrocnemius. The testosteronedaily administration during a two weeks period following the gastrocnemiectomyhas proved to enhance the muscular hypertrophy in animals autopsied immediately after the hormone treatment, while in animals sacrified 15 and 45 days later the enhancement has become progressively less apparent. No myotrophic effect has been observed in non overworked muscles with the exception of levator ani in males. On this muscle the well-known effect of testosterone paralleled the effect noticed in plantaris and soleus overworked muscles. Verf.-Referat
