Abstract

The advantages of a correct sports practice have been studied in 21 patients of haemophilia, who have done three activities during a week: ski, physiotherapy and swimming. In particular the ski has been suggested: in fact this sport concerns all the joints and can strengthen locomotory organs also in haemophiliacs that often have troubles with them. So haemathological anamnesisand clinical valuation of the joints, which were most affected by the disease, have been carried out both at the beginning and at the end of the week. The final results show in most cases remarkable improvements in knee and in ankle;positive results have been obtained especially in the elbow, the function of which shows to be better in 75 of cases. During the sports activities the risk of haemorrhage hasnt increased and the bleedings which occurred were treated with a single infusion of concentrate. Emarthrosis have been found especially in the joints which were mostly used in exercises; but on the otherhand these joints showed the best improvements at the end of this training. Onthe contrary, profilaxis with low doses of concentrates (5-10 U/kg) didnt prove to be much effective. In conclusion ski seems to be a useful means of sports promotion in patients with haemophilia.
