Abstract
The karate kata develops speed, agility, and strength. The authors studied heart rates during training to see if it develops cardiovascular fitness as well. From the results of this study it appears that the heian 1 kata performed as interval training can stimulate heart rates that are greater than 80 of the age-predicted maximal heart rate. This suggests that with frequent training sessions (three to four times a week), cardiovascular fitness will improve. Verf.-Referat
