Abstract
A particular type of intermittent cluadication may be observed in cases of muscle fatigue during walking, running or exertion in subjects with no evidence of arterial impairment. It is due to augmented tissue pressure in the aponeurotic compartments of the leg, with particular involvement of the anterior and, in some instances, the lateral compartment. The diagnosis is established by measurement of the intramuscular tissue pressure (ITP) and phlebography. Compensatory muscle hernias in the affected compartments are a typical featureof the syndrome. Resolution and correction are achieved by fasciotomy, especially in cases marked by hyperalgesia and particularly high ITP values. Verf.-Referat
