Abstract
A number of possible traumatic mechanisms of the thumb ulnar collateral ligament are discussed. The anatomical and functional importance of the ligament as regards grip and the thumb opposition mechanisms is the reason for the personal preference for surgery. The operation is performed with a special pullout technique employing and anchored double steel wire. This enables the ligament to be reinserted and, upon consolidation, the wire can be pulled out without leaving stitches in the body of the ligament. A series of 25 cases of sportsmen treated at the G. Pini Orthopaedic Institute of Milan is presented. Verf.-Referat
