Abstract des Autors
Treating middle-aged athletes orthopedic problems often proves frustrating, but the following principles are helpful: 1. The specific movement (running, jumping, kicking, throwing, and the stance) that produced the symptoms must becarefully analyzed. Modifying the movement pattern often can be very effective. 2. Proximal muscle weakness in lower extremity pathology must be carefully evaluated and rehabilitated. 3. Understanding that the extremities and torso act as interrelated links allows us to prescribe appropriate flexibilityprograms that are not necessarily limited to the area of pathology. 4. The Lenox Hill derotation brace can effectively decrease varus/valgus stress and thereby avoid potential osteotomies. 5. Limited debridement and medial or lateral patellar facetectomy can be helpful in certain cases. 6. Anterior ankleimpingements often must be diagnosed by arthrography and/or athroscopy. Treatment is relatively simple, and the functional level of activity usually improves. Verf.-Referat
