Abstract des Autors
Autopsy studies were performed on two physicians who died while jogging. One, a 52-year-old champion tennis player, had severe atherosclerotic disease of all three coronary arteries and evidence of multiple old myocardial scars. Theother, a 28-year-old veteran jogger, had apparently normal coronary arteries and probably died of a ventricular dysrhythmia. Retrospective screening for coronary risk factors revealed multiple factors in the first and few in the second. Exercise stress testing may be useful in screening such individuals for effortrelated myocardial ischemia and ventricular rhythm disturbances. Meticulous necropsy studies are strongly recommended in exercise-related deaths of young persons to enhance the unterstanding of possible mechanisms involved. Verf.-Referat
