Abstract des Autors

The concept of upper extremity exercise training in cardiac rehabilitation is relatively new and deserves further consideration. Results of this study demonstrate some of the physiological differences between arm and leg exercise and their clinical significance. The principal findings are that the physiological cost of arm work is greater than leg work at a given absolute submaximalwork level, maximal physiological responses are significantly greater in leg work than in arm work, and the training heart rate prescription determined from arm testing is based on the same percentage of maximum (70 to 85) as determined from leg testing.
