Abstract des Autors

This study was designed to determine electrocardiographic and vectorcardiographic effects of an eight-week progressive distance running program in 36 untrained college males. Twenty-six subjects served as the training group and were trained 55 minutes a day, three days a week, for eight weeks. Running intensity was set between 75 and 80 of the individuals maximum predicted heart rate and running distance were increased weekly. The remaining ten subjects served as the control group. Significant pretest and posttest differences indicated: (1) an increase in QRS (P<.05) and T-wave (P<.01) height in lead V4; (2) an increase in maximum QRS- (P<.05) and T-vector (P<.01) magnitude in the frontal plane; (3) an increase in treadmill performance time (P<.001). No significant differences (P<.05) were found in (1) QRS duration inlead II or V4; (2) QRS and t-wave height in lead II; (3) maximum QRS- and Tvector axis in any plane; or (4) frontal QRS-T angle.
