Abstract des Autors

Football fans are disturbed by knee injuries, and rightly so, because they often end the careers of famous players. Yet, little or no concern is shown for injuries to the head even though such injuries may be potential fatal.
The commonly quoted fatality statistics on head injuries give no indication of the true incidence of brain trauma in football. Published data show that as many as 54.000 concussions may occur each year in high school football, and that one of eight college players will have a concussion at some time.
