Abstract des Autors

Various types of leg pain between the tibial tubercle and the ankle have been grouped as the shin splint syndrome. The term shin splints has been used to describe several conditions but is now accepted by most as describing a musculotendious inflammation. Clement in 1974, described 20 cases of tibial stress syndrome in well-conditioned athletes undergoing heavy training. The difficulties in diagnosis are brought out by his comment that "the dependence on radiologic findings in the description of stress fracture can be confussing, since the clinical symptoms can develop without, or in advance of, any x-ray changes." Most athletes with shin splints never have any significant limitation in performance and never see a physician, and must continue their training without any disability related to running.
