Abstract

Methods and techniques based on physical soundness and aptitude for testing whether children and adolescents should begin sports are described, together with evaluation via a derected clinical examination and radiography, ECG and spirography. Aptitude and ability are assessed in terms of muscle strength and maximum potential and the respective techniques are described, along with those for alactacid and lactacid aerobic capacity. Specific assessments of suitability for particular sports are open to criticsm. As determined today, such judgements,in practical terms and at the mass-examination level, are essentially based on clinical data. It is hoped that the difficulties relating to the assessment of sports ability will soon be overcome. Verf.-Referat
