Abstract

53 pupils participated in a 7 weeks training programme in running. At all times they were running at their maximum speed. As a result of the training the pupils improved their performances by about 15%, but the efficiency of the cardio-vascular system, measured by the maximum reception of oxygen, increased only by about 3°/o, one could observe that the coordination of movements in running improved in training. This fact led to the conclusion that the improvement in the performance depends basically on better economy in the whole movement. The slower runners achieved a higher increase in the performance than the good runners. The maximum reception of oxygen in the ergometric performance on a bicycle was higher in boys than in girls. Accordingly the boys' average performance in running was better than the girls' right from the beginning of the course. Verf.-Referat
